STARS ALLIGN FOR CLIMATE CRISIS CHANGE ANTHEM
You’ve heard of Live Aid, Farm Aid, Band Aid — consider this Global Warming Aid.
The Kofi Annan-led Tck Tck Tck Campaign has brought together a world-wide group of musicians (from Fergie and All-American Rejects to Mark Ronson and Duran Duran) and celebrities (Jet Li, for e.g.) to record a new version of Australian act Midnight Oil’s 1980’s political anthem “Beds Are Burning”. The song and video (above) serve as a walk-up to the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen next month.
“Our campaign seeks to influence political leaders to come to a global deal in Copenhagen that is robust, fair and effective,” says Annan, secretary general of the United Nations.
The Oils’ original goal — with many of their tunes, including “Beds Are Buring” — was to use music to convey their anti-nuclear and environmentalist causes. Two decades later, singer Peter Garret is his native Australia’s Minister of the Environment, Heritage, and the Arts.
